Breakfast buffet

Did you sleep well and wake up restored? Wonderful! Take a deep breath of fresh mountain air and you’ll catch the aroma of our alpine buffet breakfast and the gorgeous scent of the freshly baked bread and rolls from our Ramsau master baker tempting you down to the Hotel Berghof Altholzstube.

With a cup of coffee or tea, and with refreshing fruit juices, some of them freshly squeezed, you will certainly be ready for the day. Enjoy freshly baked bread with sweet treats from the jam bar, or cut meats, sausages, cheese. We can serve your eggs however you want them, and, of course, there is also a corner with muesli and fruit, with yoghurts, curds and milk to with go it, all from our own organic farm. Feast to your heart’s content from 8 am to 10.30 am in the Gaststube or in the wintergarden. In summer, you can also enjoy your breakfast on the sun terrace.

If you wish to head out early to the mountain peaks in the morning, we’ll have a mountaineer-breakfast ready for you in the Berghofstub’n.

Berghof Snacks

Mountain air makes you hungry, this is common knowledge! So we offer the Berghof Jaus’n from 1 pm to 3.30 pm. A bowl of warm soup is good for body and soul, especially if it’s served with a plate of salads loaded with vitamins. Help yourself!

Well-being in the spa

At the Berghof Sauna and Spa, your well-being is our first priority. Enjoy fresh fruit, a selection of teas, and revitalised spring water by Johann Grander.

Dinner in the evening

As the crowning glory of the day, we will pamper you with our five-course gourmet dinner. Choose from our set meat, vegetarian or fish menus. The fusion of local and international dishes is carefully prepared by chef Michal and his team. Select from a large buffet of starters and salads with dressings, oils, and special vinegars. Also, there is a fine assortment of cheeses.

Please let us know of any allergies, intolerances or dietary requirement so we can make your meal perfect for you.

Accompanying wines

As a qualified sommelier, your host would be delighted to introduce you to the world of wines, recommending the best ones from our wine cellar. During a wine tasting, Mathias Wieser takes you on a journey across the Austrian wine regions. “The small Styrian wine areas offer an astonishing variety, and it is our aim to discover and collect the most precious ones for our friends and guests. We keep close friendly contact with the best wine growers.”

History of schnaps

Austria has a long tradition of distilling schnaps. Austrian farms have, for centuries, distilled Obstler, typically apples, pears, plums, as well as delicious wild-growing blueberries, raspberries, and in Ramsau even rowan.

Professional schnaps distilleries grew out of the farmhouse distilleries, refining the quality of the Obstler, which was once just distilled for personal use. From the farmhouse and down the centuries, a truly high-quality schnaps culture has developed.

How to drink schnaps?

The origin of the word schnaps comes from the Low-German word for ‘to snap’ (Germ. schnappen). A high-quality schnaps should, however, never be ‘snapped’, but enjoyed.

To experience the perfect schaps, serve it at 16° to 17° in a belly-shaped glass with a ‘chimney.’ Firstly, take in the schnaps’ scent by moving the glass past your nose with your eyes closed. Now the first sip. Take as much air as possible with the drink to have a large surface in your mouth – just like a bubble – to free your olfactory and taste receptors. And now gently swallow the schnaps, taking in the smell and taste of the fresh fruit. At Hotel Berghof, we have many high-quality schnaps from Styria and Austria, and we are happy to share our expertise.

sanus per aquam – spa – is Latin for ‘healthy thanks to water’. Sink into the refreshing water of the indoor pool at a pleasant 29°C. It is open from 7 am to 8 pm, and, in summer, you can head for the revitalising swimming pond, or a Biotop and leisure lake. About as cool and circulation-enhancing as the charming Ramsaubach mountain river is our Kneipp water-treading pool next to the hotel.

We highly recommend kneipping after a session in one of our saunas: a 42°C infrared sauna, a 62°C organic sauna with 42% air humidity and colour-light therapy, a 42°C amethyst steam bath with 85% air humidity and aromatic scent, as well as a 90°C Finnish sauna with colour-light therapy. The highlight of our feel-good spa is the 90°C panorama sauna outdoors, offering fantastic views of the Schladming Tauern mountains. The cold shower afterwards will get your circulation going again. The spa also has a 50 m² gym, fully air-conditioned.

In vino salvatio – In wine, salvation

The small Styrian vineyards offer an astonishing variety. Our aim is to discover and collect the most precious of these rare wines for our friends and guests. We keep close friendly contact with the best winegrowers, so, time and again, we can load our cellar with their finest, rarest wines.

Good wine is like a friendship, those ripened the longest are the most harmonious. In co-operation with Christian Jauk (a local vintner), we produce a series of wines called Die Freundschaft – friendship – which we enjoy at Hotel Berghof.

Wine brotherhood and sisterhood

Hoch vom Dachstein an, wo der Aar noch haust bis ins Rebenland (from the Dachstein, where the eagle lives, to the vine land) is the first line of the Styrian anthem.

The Styrian anthem serves as name and motto for the Hoch Dachstein wine brother- and sisterhood, founded in February 2002. In our association with Hotel Berghof we

  • Cultivate and promote wine culture
  • Increase the knowledge of wine
  • Advocate for wine honesty
  • Stay in touch with other wine brotherhoods

Joining the wine brotherhood and sisterhood. An application for admission, supported by a warrantor, is considered by the brother or sister council. At the acceptance ceremony, the new member vows to support wine culture to their best ability and introduce the art of enjoying wine; he or she takes a symbolic sip from our cup, signs the brother or sisterhood book, then gets a brotherhood or sisterhood pin.

IN VINO SALVATIO

Enjoy a great holiday with your four-legged friend at Hotel Berghof. Explore nature on our doorstep with long walks through large fields where your dog can play to its heart’s content. As our guest, we want your dog to feel at home with us, so he or she can also stay alone in your room, and, upon prior agreement, in our Berghofstube restaurant.

After a walk, you can wash your dog in the dog’s shower in front of the hotel and use the dog towels available.

As a special treat, during the summer season, since there is no Summercard reduction for dogs yet, we will pay for your dog’s gondola ticket. We are also happy to provide your dog’s favourite food if you contact us in advance.

Enjoy as we do

Not only is this our hotel motto but it also reflects our outlook on life. We enjoy good food and good wine, we love travelling across Europe with our caravan and our motorbikes. We like the beautiful things in life and turn to local tradition and local produce when it comes to food and the furniture at Hotel Berghof.

For generations, our roots have been in organic farming, and we are proud of our wonderful Ramsau am Dachstein home. We are humbled by Mother Nature, letting us feel down to earth in our hotel business, and we would like to share this feeling with our guests. We explore the great outdoors as much as we can. In summer by mountain bike or by foot. In winter on touring skis to visit the huts and alms, where we like to be spoiled with culinary delights like Heiligen-Geist-Krapfen (a regional pastry baked and served only at Pentecost) or Kaiserschmarrn flambé.

We like to enrich our Berghof cuisine with insights and experiences we gain while travelling. We experiment with typical Styrian delicacies, fusing them with Mediterranean herbs for new and exciting dishes and flavours.

So, enjoy as we do.

We look forward to welcoming all visitors to our hotel, and to share our love of nature and pleasure that will last longer after their stay.
Caro and Hias Wieser
